Robert “Robbie” Burgess is a native Nevadan with more than 40 years of leadership experience spanning military service, law enforcement, private industry, and state government.
Born in Elko, Nevada, Robbie moved to Carson City with his family at the age of three and has proudly always called Nevada home. His deep roots in the Silver State have shaped a lifelong commitment to service, leadership, and community.
Robbie’s career began in the United States Air Force, where he developed the principles of discipline, teamwork, and integrity that have guided him throughout his professional life.
Following his military service, he spent 20 years as President and General Manager of Michael Cycle Works, one of Northern Nevada’s premier powersports dealerships.
Under his leadership, the company achieved annual revenues of more than $18 million as early as 2007, while establishing a reputation for exceptional customer service, operational excellence, and sustained business growth.
During his tenure, he successfully managed all aspects of business operations, led teams of varying sizes, developed future leaders, and navigated the challenges of a dynamic and highly competitive industry.
He later served eight years as a Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper and Department of Public Safety Officer, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to public safety and the citizens of Nevada.
Today, Robbie serves as the Administrator of the State of Nevada Department of Administration Fleet Services Division, where he oversees statewide fleet operations, supervises employees, and manages a budget exceeding $17 million. In this role, he is responsible for strategic planning, fiscal stewardship, operational efficiency, workforce development, and the delivery of reliable fleet services that support agencies throughout the State of Nevada.
Throughout his career, Robbie has successfully led organizations and supported businesses of various types and sizes, earning a reputation as a fair, trustworthy, and results-driven leader. Guided by a strong sense of integrity and justice, he believes in treating every person with respect and ensuring decisions are made with accountability, transparency, and fairness.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Robbie has dedicated countless hours to volunteer service. For 25 years, he volunteered with the Reno National Championship Air Races, serving as both Chief Starter and Chief Pilot Check Official. His passion for aviation, safety, and community involvement made him a respected and valued member of the Air Races family.
An avid off-road enthusiast, Robbie enjoys the adventure and challenge of racing on both two wheels and four. When he is not working or pursuing his passion for motorsports, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Christie, and their growing family. Together, they are proud grandparents of ten beautiful grandchildren spread across the West Coast. Family remains at the heart of Robbie’s life and serves as his greatest source of pride and inspiration.
